Trophies - Horse Racing

The single finest event in Irish Racing – continuously run for more than a century. This is the richest race in the Irish season. Ireland is synonymous with horse racing – the Sport of Kings – and particularly with the iconic Irish Derby, which has been run at the Curragh of Kildare since 1866, although the story of racing here stretches much farther back. ‘Cuireach’ is the Gaelic word for ‘racecourse’ and today’s thundering hooves carry echoes of legendary Fionn MacCumhaill and his warriors racing their horses here, as well as 3rd-century chariot contests and 17th-century noblemen’s match racing. The Curragh Race Course commissioned Waterford Crystal in 2008 to produce a trophy and we pioneered a new hand-painting technique using platinum to decorate this new crystal design: a suitably glittering prize for one of the world’s leading international races and a social occasion full of glamour, fashion and first class entertainment.

Maryland Million Classic is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually in October since 1986 primarily at Laurel Park Racecourse in Laurel, Maryland or at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. To be eligible for the Maryland Million Classic, a horse must be sired by a stallion that stands in Maryland.

TThe World Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle race in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles (4,828 metres), and during its running there are twelve hurdles to be jumped.
