This summer the House of Waterford Crystal welcomed the participants of the Clonmel Veteran, Vintage & Classic Car Fun Run, which took place in a beautiful Waterford City. Car enthusiasts, backed by the Classic Wheels Club have brought some of the greatest motor vehicles of the past century to the city and paid a visit to the House of Waterford Crystal.

Upon their visit to the House of Waterford Crystal, city guests were greeted by the staff and given a tour of the facilities. They were given a tour of the factory, where they got a chance to see how some of the most exquisite and beautiful crystal pieces in the world are made, as well as got a chance to visit the retail store, which hosts the biggest collection of Waterford Crystal on the planet.

The Classic Wheels Club was established in 2009 by the passionate car lovers with the purpose of promoting and preserving classic vintage automobiles from vanishing from the roads. Since then, the club has been organizing various events and rallies all around Ireland and UK.

On Thursday, 2nd August, the House of Waterford Crystal welcomed visitors from the Cruise Nautica, which arrived in Waterford harbour earlier that day. Marvellous grand ship 594 feet long was on display in the Belview Port for everyone to admire.

The visitors to our magnificent South East got a chance to indulge themselves in the atmosphere of Ireland’s oldest city and, of course, visit its great landmark – world renowned House of Waterford Crystal.

The visitors were given a guided tour of the factory and retail facilities, where they got a chance to witness the skill and craftsmanship of the Waterford artisans at work.


“This is very beautiful”, commented one of the visitors on the Waterford Crystal Skyline Bowl, which was designed to celebrate the 2012 London Olympic Games and features engravings of the city’s biggest landmarks. 

Cruise Nautica is operated by the Oceania Cruises and is currently on a 12 day voyage of the British Isles. Prior to visiting sunny Waterford, the cruise had travelled from London to Edinburgh, Kirkwall, Belfast, and now is on its way to Cork before reaching its destination point at Le Havre in France.



PGA Europe Tour commissioned the House of Waterford Crystal to design a new trophy for the 2012 Irish Open, which would be presented to the winner of the event, which had been held in Portrush, county Antrim. The House of Waterford Crystal head of design John Connelly developed a spectacular concept, which was brought to life in Waterford Crystal’s new manufacturing facility located in the heart of Waterford City.

Throughout the six weeks, our manufacturing team were crafting and sculpting what would turn out to be a spectacular piece of crystal.

This magnificent piece features a beautiful and unique design of flat and diamond cutting, with an exquisitely crafted crystal sphere, which makes a reference to the golf ball and showcases the expertise and skill of Waterford Crystal artisans.

The Irish Open Waterford Crystal trophy was proudly presented to Jamie Donaldson, Welsh native, who exercised a great display of skill, winning his first European Tour with a six-under par 66 performance, for the first time in his career.

The House of Waterford Crystal has been working on a large array of sports trophies for the top American and European sporting events over the past three decades and is renowned for its collection of sporting pieces and trophies around the world. 

The House of Waterford Crystal were the proud sponsors of the Viking Marathon that took place in the city of Waterford on Saturday, 30th June, providing the array of trophies for the most outstanding athletes and winners of the marathon. All crystal pieces were specifically designed and manufactured for this event in the new Waterford Crystal manufacturing facility in the heart of Ireland’s oldest city.

Viking Marathon’s first overall winner turned out to be Brian Murphy from Carrick AC, who crossed the line with a time of 2 hours 38 minutes, followed by the first female winner Angela McCann from Clonmel AC with a time of 2 hours 57 minutes.

Both athletes were awarded a beautiful Waterford Crystal Lismore Diamond vase for their remarkable accomplishment and commitment to sport. The vase featured magnificent diamond cutting patterns and engraving, showcasing the skill and expertise of Waterford Crystal artisans. All other prize winners also went home with a sparkling piece of Waterford Crystal.

The marathon started in the centre of Waterford City, near the Bishop’s Palace and the House of Waterford Crystal, and proceeded to the nearby town of Tramore, after which it concluded at the RSC Stadium in Waterford. Over 1,700 runners participated in the event, with athletes from all over Ireland coming to the sunny South-East to take be a part of this memorable day.

Among the special guests that attended this inaugural event were the newly-appointed Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Jim D’Arcy, and Waterford’s native, Silver Olympic Marathon Medallist John Tracey. An impressive 350 stewards lined the route and ensured the safe return of all involved.


The House of Waterford Crystal, located on the Mall in the heart of Waterford city, has been shortlisted in the top 100 of the Retail Excellence Awards. The retail store will now progresses to stage two of the awards which involve a formal store assessment which will determine if the store progresses to the top 50.

The Irish Retail Awards reward excellence in practice across the retail industry in Ireland. The Awards were established in 1997 by Retail Excellence Ireland to promote best practice standards in the retail industry and it is the largest awards programme of its type, boasting over 600 total entries annually.

The 2012 Awards will be presented to retail stores, companies and individuals who best demonstrate evidence of outstanding practice in retail and which makes a positive difference to the retail experience being delivered to the Irish consumer.

Tourism operators from around Ireland, including the House of Waterford Crystal, travelled to the US and Canada recently to participate in Tourism Ireland's latest ‘Jump into Ireland' sales blitz, which took place in the cities of Boston and Toronto.

The 'Jump' sales blitzes are targeting about 1,500 travel agents in nine key cities in the all-important North American market throughout 2012.

Michelle Maguire, Ireland’s Blue Book; Michael Lonergan, Consul General of Ireland in Boston; David McCoy, House of Waterford Crystal; and Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland, during Tourism Ireland’s ‘Jump into Ireland’ event in Boston.

At the 2012 International Mothers of the Year event, that was held in Austin, Texas on the 4th May, ten great women were announced to be inducted into the Mothers Hall of Fame.

U.S. first lady Michelle Obama and actress Reese Witherspoon have been named International Mothers of the Year for 2012

Also enshrined in the Hall of Fame this year are Victoria Beckham, a singer and fashion designer; Lisa Belkin, a Huffington Post journalist; Stephanie Decker, an Indiana housewife and tornado survivor; Betty DeGeneres, author, activist and mother of talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres; Meredith Olafson, a North Dakota nurse and surrogate mother; Holly Robinson Peete, an actress and television host; Ann Romney, philanthropist and wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney; and Summer Sanders, an Olympic medalist.

This year each of the inductees was presented with this beautiful commemorative gift.

The 13th annual All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge was officially launched last Monday, 30th April, by Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Liam O'Neill at Waterford City Hall.

Staged in Waterford Castle Golf Club once again this September, the All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge is the premier golf competition for Gaels both home and abroad with all profits raised this year going to the Waterford Hospice and the Alzheimer's Society.

 Teams from Chicago, New York and the UK will once again compete this year, while a number of European teams will be invited to take part. A new one-day singles competition has also been added to the weekend due to the popularity of the event.

During the announcement, Uachtarán Chumann Luthchleas Gael, Liam O'Neill launched the new All-Ireland trophy, a Waterford Crystal replica of the Liam McCarthy Cup, which will be proudly presented to the winner of the event. The replica was handcrafted at the House of Waterford Crystals Manufacturing Facility on the Mall in Waterford.     

Run on a purely volunteer basis with all profits going to the Waterford Hospice and the Alzheimer's Society, the All-Ireland GAA Golf Challenge is open to all GAA clubs who enter teams selected from their 2012 members.
