Explore The Waterford Region: The Foodie Feature

Every year the West Waterford Festival of Food takes place in Dungarvan putting the spotlight on the wonderful eateries and locally produced food & drink throughout the county of Waterford. The festival was meant to take place this Friday from the 17th – 19th April however due to the global pandemic the festival has had to be cancelled for this year. They will host a ‘virtual’ festival over the coming weeks, sharing recipes, videos and foodie facts that you can tuck into and get involved in from your own kitchen. Be sure to keep an eye on their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and follow #VirtualWWFOF2020 for some mouth-watering baking to cocktail-making recipes.

There are lots of great foodie features to be experienced while in Waterford, check out some of our favourites below:

The Blaa - a soft white bread roll, is a speciality of Waterford and is traditionally filled with hot bacon, sausages or any breakfast item you fancy! Another delicious and popular choice is a plain blaa spread with some real butter. In 2013, the Waterford blaa was awarded ‘Protected Geographical Indication’ status which recognises the bread roll as a unique product of the Waterford region. Choose from a crusty or a soft floury blaa. You have to try one while in the area!

Food Tours - Waterford has recently been voted Ireland’s No. 1 Foodie Destination with it’s vast array of tasting choices throughout the city and county. For a real taste adventure, why not join one of the food tours the city has to offer including The Tapas Trails, The Urban Fox Tours or a Bus Bia Food Tour. A delicious way to discover the flavours of Waterford and get to know local landscapes, people and their stories. Some of these tours include a visit to local producers including Walsh's Bakehouse, Dunhill Food Hub, Mezze Middle East and Comeragh Mountain Farm.
