House of Waterford Crystal produce trophies for the new World Snooker Home Nations series

Waterford Crystal, one of the leading world brands in premium crystal, has been selected by the WPBSA to produce new trophies for the new World Snooker Home Nations series.

With 200 years of heritage, tradition and exquisite craftsmanship, Waterford Crystal already have a strong association with snooker. In 2004 they were responsible for the production of the unmistakable perpetual trophy for the Masters and more recently were entrusted with the design and production of the crystal presented at the Paul Hunter Classic.

The Home Nations series is new for the 2016/17 season, compromising the English Open, Northern Ireland Open, Scottish Open and Welsh Open tournaments. A new perpetual trophy has been commissioned for each tournament, with each to be named after a snooker legend hailing from that particular country.

The first unique piece, the Steve Davis Trophy, has already been produced and was presented to Liang Wenbo, the winner of the Coral English Open on 16 October 2016. The handmade trophy designed by Waterford Crystal designer Billy Briggs, features the Tudor Rose on its front representing the plant badge of England and also features the logo of the WPBSA.

WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said: “As an aspirational world governing body it is paramount that we are able to provide trophies of the quality befitting the ever-increasing prestige of our tournaments. Waterford Crystal is renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail and once again have delivered something special for our players to play for.”

Waterford Crystal Sales & Marketing Director David McCoy added: “The team at Waterford Crystal are delighted to have been chosen to design and manufacture the Home Nations Snooker tournament trophies. Each individual trophy design, beautifully captures, the national emblem associated with each of the countries, within the Home Nations Series. They are a wonderful addition to the “blue ribbon” trophies we have created for the world’s leading sporting events.”
