Imagine Arts Festival 2021

The Imagine Arts Festival  is celebrating it’s 20th Anniversary this year! It kicked off on Friday 15th October and runs until Sunday 24th October with a jam packed line-up.

This year's programme includes music, literature, dance, visual art, performance and history, as well as incorporating Waterford Writers Weekend. There's a mix of free, online and ticketed events. 
 

Here's a taste of what you can expect throughout the week!
 
  • New Horizons - An online showcase of the collaboration between local dance companies, filmmakers, videographers, musicians, poets and spoken word artists to create short dance film piece under the title 'Youth Dance Celebration'. 
  • The Ballad of New York Book Launch - As part of the Imagine Arts Festival, local author, Derek Flynn, will launch his new novel The Ballad of New York at a very special event in GOMA on Wednesday October 20 at 6pm.
  • John Shinnors Solo Exhibition - The artistic works of painter John Shinnors will be showcased in GOMA Gallery with music in the gardens by The Relics. 
  • Modwords Presents... Stories Found In Change - An evening of words and music from every different kind of voice.
  • Junior Brother Live at St. Patrick's Gateway - Chosen as one of RTÉ's Rising Irish Stars of 2018, and as one of The Irish Times' contenders ready to break through in 2019, Junior Brother has built a rabid following thanks to unmissable live shows, and music both excitingly forward-looking and anciently evocative.
  • A Stop/Go Annimation Workshop with Kenneally Films - Learn the basics of stop-motion animation and bring your ideas to the screen! Unleash your creativity and discover all the tricks you need to know to create your own stop-motion shorts and movies at home. 
  • An Interview With Megan Nolan - Waterford native and author of one of 2021’s most celebrated debuts, Megan Nolan will read from Acts of Desperation and speak about the process of writing her second novel.


The House of Waterford Crystal is delighted to host the Music of Waterford event taking place on Saturday 23rd October at 7:30pm. 

Musical Duo Tonos – Soprano Róisín O’Grady & Bandora, Lute and Baroque Guitarist Eamon Sweeney will be joined by special guest Sean Nós Singer Cárthach Mac Craith to perform a beautiful selection of European and Irish music from the 17th and 18th centuries - mixing Irish song with works by English and Continental masters.

The concert provides a unique opportunity to hear the sean nós singing tradition alongside that of the classical style, both telling stories through song in different ways. Tickets are still available and can be booked here.
