Tommy Murphy - SculptorTommy Murphy - SculptorTommy Murphy - Sculptor

Tommy began his career at Waterford in 1975. He remembers that day as if it was yesterday when he joined as a Flat Cutter here at our factory in Kilbarry, on the outskirts of Waterford city.

Qualifying as a Master Cutter within five years, Tommy excelled in his craft for over twenty years when an opportunity arose in 1995 to set up the first crystal sculpting department at Waterford. This department is a hive of activity where a small team work to create special prestigious pieces for auspicious events throughout the world.

Among the many works that Tommy has conceived and created, he especially remembers the special piece he created for Michael Flatley, of Riverdance fame, when the world famous dancer was presented with a statuesque poise of himself at a special celebration in Dublin.

He enjoys the comraderie of the team in the Sculpting department and remembers when they co-created a 3 ft replica of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

In his spare time, Tommy enjoys Golf and driving his Harley Davidson on the country roads of Waterford.

In the evenings he enjoys long walks in the countryside with his wife Faye and his three daughters, Lucy, Laura and Clare.
“With each brief, we have to plan each piece meticulously on paper before starting work on raw blocks of crystal. The process of planning is critical since deadlines are so tight from commission to delivery into the hands of someone special at some event.”

“What I enjoy most is the precision and detail that we can work into the blocks of crystal we receive each day. We have freedom to create and be artistic in our interpretation. The greatest satisfaction is to see the wonder and amazement of the people who receive what we create. Some often say they thought it was not possible.”
