An Taoiseach presents Waterford Crystal Bowl to President Barack Obama at the White House
The House of Waterford Crystal celebrated St Patrick’s Day in style!
Our CEO visited the White House as a guest of An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, who presented President Barack Obama with a stunning House of Waterford Crystal bowl, which was designed and hand-crafted especially for the occasion.
The House of Waterford Crystal was delighted to be selected after the Taoiseach’s office invited artisan craftsmen and crystal companies from around the country to put forward proposals for the historic moment.
A Waterford Crystal Bowl of Shamrock was presented to President Obama on behalf of the people of Ireland during annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on March 17th.
The piece designed by Martin Ryan, is beautifully crafted with an intricate cut pattern, shamrock scallops, on a 10 inch footed bowl. The design was inspired by W.B Yeats poem “He Wishes for the Cloth of Heaven”, as part of the 150 year anniversary of W.B. Yeats. Ryan incorporated a curved swag around the top of the bowl, to allow the first five lines of the poem to be incorporated onto the piece.
Master Craftsman Damien O' Regan skills are reflected in the detailed cutting evident in the base of the bowl. The design and cutting create the sparkle that defines a piece of Waterford. The curved swags and shamrock scallops provide a beautiful decorative finish. W.B. Yeats poem is captured in an Edwardian Style engraving type face. The crystal bowl was mouth blown and hand cut at the House of Waterford Crystal factory in Ireland.
